Somehow, this 1982 interview showed up in my YouTube algorithm, so I thought it would be interesting to share. I remember those days so well.
I had a laptop I used for commercial presentations, but back then, the only sound they could play was the miscellaneous "dings" you hear every once in a while. When the first real sound cards came out, I was so excited because I could run a PowerPoint presentation with voice narration.
The only thing way to do that was to carry a big docking station with your laptop. The entire setup probably weighed at least 15 pounds, and it was huge! The salesman told me I should wait a while, and pretty soon the laptops would come out with their own sound cards and would be a lot less. Of course, I couldn't wait. I think I paid about $8K for the docking station alone.
I still have a blog post from long ago where I explained what Google was and stressed how important it was for people to find your business. Dot matrix printers, fax machines, DOS, the screeching when you made your slow Internet connection, you name it, I lived through it all. It's been a wild ride, and I only wish I could be around for another 42 years to see the new technology.
Here's that interview ...
