The City of Lucas Council meeting (January 18, 2018) was packed with residents wanting to express their support for a city wide recycling program. Earlier this year, Barnes Waste Disposal Services, the city‘s contracted trash collector, informed the city that it would no longer provide recycling services. The cancellation of recycling services gave birth to the “Save Lucas Recycling” movement.
Tonight the city presented two optional proposals for subscription recycling services for residents. All city council members expressed their support for recycling. Residents were given the opportunity to express their opinions about recycling. Every speaker was in favor of some type of recycling program for the city.
The city council adjourned with a motion to approve the city moving forward to enter into a contract with Republic Services for their subscription based recycling program. The city council also confirmed that they will review their options to allow for a city wide recycling program that would be included with a trash collection service. The new service will require citizens to enroll with Republic for a bi-weekly pick up. The cost will be under $8 per household. The program is projected to start some time in April.
