Quiet Country and Family Living Murphy is growing quickly, but remains a family community with the majority of growth in single family residences. It is not as "country" as it once was, but it still has the small town feel to it and most importantly, it is being developed responsibly. Just minutes away is the large Lake Lavon where one can enjoy fishing, boating and take in the wild life around the lake. The Army Corps of Engineers owns all of the land around Lake Lavon, so this rich wildlife environment will be protected forever. If you enjoy horses, there is also a 9 mile equestrian trail maintained by the Trinity Association. This trail will soon be significantly extended. Great Schools Although Murphy might be considered a fairly small town by population, the children have the benefit of attending two large, well established school systems. The Plano Independent School District is already recognized nationwide for its solid educational background. The Wylie Independent School District, in partnership with parents and the community, also provide their Murphy students with a world-class academic education that will prepare them to lead successful and productive lives. Wylie ISD is proud to offer community education classes that offer fun, recreation and personal growth. The community education program has been a part of WISD for more than 25 years. Quick access to President George Bush Freeway (SH 190) SH 190 (President George Bush Freeway), a major east/west thoroughfare, was recently constructed to relieve the heavy east/west traffic on Dallas prior northernmost loop, LBJ Freeway (I-635). For many years LBJ was Dallas’ only major east/west thoroughfare and had become one of the most congested roads in America. SH 190, is a toll fee freeway, but well worth it when your only other option is sitting on a congested LBJ Freeway in stop and go traffic. It has been a major boon to all of the cities that touch it, including Murphy.
