City Council Meeting Summary

  • Proclamation for Fire Prevention Week.

                  -October 9th-15th is Fire Prevention Week 2005.

    1. -Slogans:      

                    -“Use Candles with Care”

                     -“When You Go Out Blow Out”

    1. Open House on Oct. 13th at City Hall to go over:

                              -Candle Safety             -Exit strategies in Homes

                              -Smoke Detectors

  • Stacy Buckley Introduction to New Murphy Employee’s

                  -James Fishedie- Human Resources Officer

                  -Eric Meadet- Fire Medic

                  -John Stevens – Fire Medic

                  -Kristen Ottam- Fire Prevention Specialist

  • Murphy Chamber of Commerce representatives presentation and update of Chamber Events
    1. Mr. Lonnie Long, Chamber Board of Directors of Events, gave the                               council a quick update on the 31 & 31 Member Drive.

                              -Get 31 businesses to join the Chamber of Commerce in the 31                                                 days of October.

                              -Chamber of Commerce meetings are on the 3rd Tuesday of every                                       month.  The next one being on October 18th, 2005.

                              -They will hold programs for cities, such as:

1.      How to Get More Out of Your Staff – October 15th

2.      The Christmas Program- December 20th

3.      More to be announced at later date

 

Public Comments

·        A concerned citizen was concerned with the response time of 911.

·        He hopes that Murphy will get their own 911 dispatch. 

·        There were eight fires in Murphy over the weekend and one citizen wanted to commend the fire department with their quick response  and action time

 

Consent Agenda

1.      Approval of the Minutes from the Regular City Council Meeting of September 19, 2005 and the Emergency Meeting of September 23, 2005.

                  -APPROVED

2.      Consider and/or act upon approval of an Ordinance to amend the Fiscal Year 2004-2005 Budget.

                  -APPROVED 

3.   Consider and/or act/or upon a Resolution approving and Inter-local       Agreement between the City of Murphy and the City of Plano regarding on-site building inspection and plan review.

                  -APPROVED

4.  Consider and/or act/or upon approval of Ordinance establishing rules and           procedures for the drilling of new water wells.

                  -APPROVED 

Work Session

·        Discussion of Capital Projects Advisory Committee and Public Events Advisory Committee.

                  -Council suggests postponing the meeting until April or May.

                  -Applications will begin in April but won’t be decided until June.

·        Council calls to pass postponement of the Capital Project Advisory Committee and Public Events Advisory Committee.

                  -PASSED
