Lovejoy ISD Update

October 16th, 2007

I attended the Lovejoy ISD informational meeting last night and took some notes.  I have tried to be as accurate as possible with my notes, but if I have made an error, please let me know.  Here are the highlights I picked out ...

  • At total build out, Lovejoy ISD is projected to have 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and one high school.

  • Lovejoy ISD has 2,500 kids now, is projected to have 4,000 students in 5 years, and 5,800 students in 10 years at full capacity.

  • Lovejoy ISD will be a 3A school district for two years and probably 4A within two years.

  • The high school is built for 1,000 kids right now, but will be expanded to 1,500 students as the need arises (probably in 2010 or 2011)

  • Puster Elementary (corner of Hart and Stoddard) is currently under construction and due to open next Fall

  • Sloan Creek Middle School (on Country Club just north of Old Stacy Rd. intersection) is currently under construction and due to open next Fall.  It's projected to serve 850 kids.

  • About 81% of the middle school students and 69% of the 9th and 10th graders are participating in some sort of athletics.  This high percentage of participation (by both boys and girls) is why Lovejoy ISD is budgeting for many of the new athletic facilities.

  • Lovejoy ISD is a property wealthy district.  At one time, $.46 of every Lovejoy ISD dollar was sent to lower income school districts to fund their schools.  At this time, Lovejoy ISD is only contributing $.11 per dollar.

If the $78.5 MillionLovejoy ISD bond passes ...

  • The tax rate will increase by $3.87 cents to $1.515

  • 100% of the taxes collected for repayment of the bonds will be retained by Lovejoy ISD
