District UIL Alignment
Lovejoy ISD has been placed into District 13-3A for the 2008-09 and 2009-2010 school years. The other schools in our district include: Princeton Farmersville Emory Rains Nevada Community Quinlan Ford This will include all varsity sports except for soccer, swimming, and wrestling. We will be placed in another district for these sports due to the small number of 3A programs who participate in these sports.
Rumor #1 Ted Moore is working on a book about a rigorous curriculum and that is the reason that he is conducting an experiment in Lovejoy on a Pre AP program for all students in grades 6-10.
Ted’s Response This rumor is false on several levels. I am not working on a book about any subject. The district is working to support all students in the curriculum that is prescribed by the State of Texas for each core subject area. The Texas curriculum prescribed by the TEKS are college preparatory and if taught at the level that they are written, then they will prepare each student to take an AP course in grades 11 or 12 if they so choose. I do want Lovejoy graduates to leave Lovejoy High School and be either college ready or work place ready. Regarding a book, I have been a student of leadership for most of my 31-year career and might at some point do some writing on leadership at the campus level.
Rumor #2 Lovejoy ISD has a contract to purchase the site at 1531 Estates Parkway (former nursery) and intends to use the property as a cover to bring sewer into the City of Lucas.
Ted’s Response LISD has placed the property at 1531 Estates Parkway under contract. We are currently in a 40 day feasibility study to determine if it will work as an elementary site. The property may be too small to accommodate a septic system so the district will investigate the possibility of building a lift station on the property, pumping the water under pressure to the lift station currently located on the LHS campus. This lift station has a connection to North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) sewer main at FM 2551. No one can tap the current connection between LHS and the NTMWD line because it is a forced main and no one would be able to tap the line between 1531 Estates and LHS for the same reason. LISD would incur all costs for the lift station and the sewer line and would have to have approval of both the City of Lucas and the NTMWD to move forward. The district is also having an environmental study conducted on the 1531 Estates property to be sure that it is absent from contaminants.
Other News
LISD has worked in a collaborative manner with the Town of Fairview to build both Sloan Creek Middle School and Puster Elementary. In the spirit of cooperation, the Town of Fairview is poised to make improvements to Stoddard Road before we open Puster Elementary. In a recent discussion, we learned that the project is currently on hold as we wait for Oncor Electrical Delivery to move some utilities. We have contacted Oncor and are seeking your help. If you have relationships with Oncor that could assist us to move this issue up on the priority list, please let me know. You can call me at 469-742-8011 or email me at ted_moore@lovejoyisd.net
