Some of my favorite pictures of Fairview and Lucas, Texas

The reason I have combined the pictures of these towns is they are similar in many ways.  They share the same boundary, they share the same school district, and they are zoned very similarly.  Most of the homes in both towns are on at least one acre and many on are on larger estates.  You hardly know when you are leaving Fairview and entering Lucas.

You will see some fabulous subdivisions and homes on our website, but there is more to both Fairview and Lucas than that.  For better or worse, these towns are growing very rapidly.  Many of the pictures you see below are of sights that will not be there some day.  I guess I am chronicling them to remind me as much as our visitors of how things used to be out here.

The old railroad trestle over Greenville Ave. The bridge had already been taken down when this picture was taken in early 2008, but the curve is still someplace you don't want to take too quickly.  Truckers were constantly getting their trucks stuck under the bridge, and the only way to release them was to let the air out of their tires.

Remember the nine hole, McKinney Golf Course next to the Heard Museum?  It is now a single family development under development.

Believe it or not, this is the Fairview town hall and fire station.  Some day, this building will be a memory.

Taken December 4th, 2007 in Fairview - This Sonic on Stacy Road is within a mile of the new, 2,000,000 SF plus, new Allen Village and Fairview Village retail center currently under construction.

Taken December 5th, 2007 - Who says Lucas doesn't have commercial?  The Lucas Food Store is a landmark.  For many years, it was the only convenience store within a 15 minute drive of the town.  Now, Allen and Wylie have grown right to the Lucas boundaries, but the store continues to do a brisk business.

December 4th, 2007 in Fairview - A beer can Christmas tree you won't see in any of the newer subdivisions.

Taken June 10th, 2006 in Lucas - Lucas is a very horse-friendly town.  It is a bit more rural and less polished than Fairview, but still just minutes from shopping in Allen.  It shares the same, great Lovejoy school district.  If you are a Lucas resident, don't get offended by this comparison.  We live in Lucas ourselves, and we love it!

Taken May, 2007 in Lucas - Lucas still has large tracts of land with horses and cattle.  How long will they be there?  It's anyone's guess.

We sold the land this massive Pecan tree is sitting on many years ago.  As good stewards of the land, the buyers insisted the city of Lucas re-route a water line well around the roots so it would be spared.  I have been told this is one of the oldest Grand Daddy trees in Collin County.  You cannot tell how large the trunk is from this picture, but it is just massive!

Taken June, 2007 in Lucas - I know some day this beautiful land in Lucas will be developed, but I hope it doesn't come quickly.  I drive by this acreage almost every day and always appreciate it.

Taken December 5th, 2007 - The Willis fruit and vegetable stand is where the locals have come for years to get their fresh produce.  Most of the vegetables are  grown right there.  It is located almost at the corner of Old Stacy Road and Orr.  Just keep going east on Stacy Rd past Heritage Ranch and you will come to it.  It is kind of hit and miss if they are open at this time of year, but they do a good business through the spring and summer.  You might have to honk to get their attention, but they are around.

One of the homes you'll see driving north on Orr Road towards the McKinney Airport.  This is also one of my favorite drives.  The road rarely has traffic and winds up and down hills under a canopy of trees.

Taken December 6th, 2007 - The Forest Grove Church on 1378 (Country Club Rd)

Taken December 6th, 2007 - Another old water tower on 1378.

Taken December 6th, 2007 - I'm still trying to get the history on this old, frame home on 1378.

The Sonic Restaurant on Stacy Rd., December 4th, 2007.  Believe it or not, this was the very first restaurant in Fairview.  This was taken as the new new retail at 75 and Stacy was just breaking ground.  Talk about just being steamrolled by development.  It was incredible how quickly it all happened.

There is one landmark I hope never disappears.  This plaque is on the original, little red schoolhouse on Country Club Rd.  It was built in 1917.  This is where Lovejoy Independent School District all started!  The building now serves as the administration offices and has been recently renovated inside.

The iconic water tower at NWC of Greenville Avenue and Stacy Road.  I hope they keep it if for nothing more than to remember how it used to be out here.

The following three shots were taken of the land where The Village of Fairview is resting on August 11, 2009.  This view is from Stacy Road looking to the northwest.

Another shot from Stacy Road, also looking generally northwest.

Looking almost due east on Stacy Road with the water tower in the background.  The land to the right (south) side of Stacy also looked just like this.  It's hard to imagine there was nothing here except a small driving range, batting cage, and some outside storage.  If you would like to see what is sitting on this land just six months later just click here.  The south side (Allen City side) was just as barren.  Here is what is on that side of this road now.

You can still look out and see hundreds of acres of land without a home on it.  The pictures below are of Stinson Road.

The land below surrounds the Municipal Water District.  This will probably never be developed.
